The best and lightest you can afford.
Used ones. Don’t sink a lot of money into a new hobby. Hard lesson learned.
Go on eBay and buy used, or borrow a pair from a family member or friend. After a year, if you take your hobby to a higher level and you find that used pair not quite meeting your needs, then look for a new pair.
How would I find one? I’d goto a book store, buy an astronomy magazine, look for a good pair of binocs in an article or ad, and buy it off amazon.com.
binocular design has come a long way in the last couple years, you can get a really good quality pair of binocs for around $250.00. Make sure you get something lightweight and do by 8×42 strength, these are easier for beginners to see birds. The higher powered ones make it harder to find the bird in the vision field and the slightest hand movement will make you bird view shaky and hard to see. Good Luck.
